|

Hi,
Just recently bought my first GPS (Navman 510) in southern France (Nice) with French roadmap on SD Card. Now I would like to add other european countries. This means that I will have to purchase the CDs from Navman. (OK) but also a larger SD Card of more than 1 GB.
If I want (and I want to) plot a route from Nice to Switzerland (via Milan - Italy) to Neuchatel. continuing my journey through Germany to end in Bruges (Belgium) then I will need following maps on my brand new Navman 510 : France, Italy, Switzerland (together with Austria ?) Germany and Benelux.
All this will require a card of more than 1 GB. But is any sD card of more than 1 good enough, or should I look for the fasted card I can get my hands on? Does memory speed have an impact an the speed of the Navman? ... What is the largest memory size the Navman 510 is able to deal with?....
Looking forward to hear from you.

Hi,
I do not know about navman but when Tomtom kept crashing on my Toshiba PDA the TomTom techies told me it was the speed of my secure digital card thet was at fault so I am now purchasing a faster card from Ebay. Not sure if this answers one of your questions. |

I have the same equipment. I have not bought a 1Gb card as I find a 512Mb quite suitable - you do not have to load whole countries - for instance, Austria is divided into North and South. Germany has a number of different Regions - Belgium is not divided but France like Germany has quite a number.
If you are going on a route through a number of countries, you can load the Regions, rather than whole countries.
I am going from UK, through Belgium, Germany, Austria to Croatia and I can get all of the countrie/regions required on the 512Mb card without problem. On my return journey, I will simply delete Germany and Austria and load Northern italy, Northern France etc..
The Basemap of Europe which came with your purchase will route you through the gaps! _________________ Gee-Pee

Thank you all for your feedback.
Initially I thought I had to load countries, now I see that one can load regions. So I bought a SanDisk 1GB SD Card with holds all the countries I need.
Thank you and au revoir
