Hi all,

I am planning on getting a Brodit active mount for my iPaq rx3715 but have a couple of questions.

1. How long is the cigarette lighter lead that comes with the Brodit? I am undecided yet which proclip to buy - either the dash mount on the left or the dash mount on the right. I think that positioning it on the right hand side might be better as I am right-handed, but want to make sure that the cable will reach. Can anybody offer their experience of which side is best?

2. I am getting the version with the cigarette lighter adaptor on it. If I change my mind later, and want to hard-wire this into my car, is it simply a case of chopping off the plug and fitting an in-line fuse onto the end of the cable?

Thanks.

The Brodit mount that I am looking at here has a coiled cable with a length of 24inches. This will easily expand to 48inches and beyond.

You cannot just cut the cable off and connect it to a 12v supply as it has a 12 to 5 volt transformer built in. You would need to get an inline cigar lighter socket. Halfords sell them for nex to nothing.

Thanks, looks like I will be getting one of these from Halfords or Maplin.

Is this the only difference between the normal and hardwired versions? (i.e. transformer in the mount unit rather than the plug)

I have noticed on the handnav site that the hardwire version is 20 quid more expensive....
