This is my first posting so please forgive me if this is a daft quaestion. I have read the other postings but not worked it out yet. --
I am awaiting delivery of the new ST V3 software to run on my iPaq. I am particularly looking forward to using the large number of POI databases. I appreciate that the speed database can be converted for the Navman V3 software but what about all the other POI databases? Can they be converted or do they only work with TomTom software? Dave Burrows' introductory remarks appear to indicate that I will have to wait for Navman specific POIs to appear.
Don't worry, Stefan. Any POI file in .csv, .ov2. xls etc. can be made to work with SmartST V3 software without too much trouble.

Are you editing the files to alter coordinates, or other data?
So far I've only imported POI lists found on the internet to see if it works in the V3 SW. But of course I'll try to create my own files as well further on. The tedious part will probably be to translate a street address into coordinates. I'm guessing that this step has to be performed manually, i.e by looking up the address in SmartST and copying the long/lat information into the POI editor.

What I do is use MS Autoroute 2005. You can create your own POIs, called "Pushpins" or you can import data into autoroute, depending on how accurate the imported data is. You can then save this data as an .axe file and convert it to a .csv file. I don't know how accurate Postcode information is in Sweden. Can you give me a postcode you know to be accurate, and I'll tell you its rough coordinates. _________________ Tim

The coordinate I get from SmartST is:
Latitude: N57°43'43,31"
Longitude: E11°57'20,62"
It would be interesting to see what long/lat information MS Autoroute gives for this address. A big difference between UK and Sweden is the way post codes are being used. In general, a post code area is bigger in Sweden than in the UK (at least if all seven digits are used in UK). Not sure what the story is if only five digits are being used in UK, as is the case in SmartST.

All right, that's close enough. It was the petrol station that was my point of interest. I'm looking to create a POI database with my preferred petrol stations all over the country, built up from an address list.
I will try to get my hands on MS Autoroute and play around a bit with it.

Autoroute is definitely good enough for that, if your address list is accurate. If you can get your address list in a readable format (.xls, .csv, .txt etc.) then you can import it into Autoroute in one hit. It will create all the pushpins and then you can move each one manually as required if you want greater accuracy. I've just done one for BP garages in the UK. _________________ Tim

When I try to load an .axe file into POI Conversion tool I get the following error:
Running ST2GPX V0.5 utility to extract PushPin data
The ST2GPX utility failed to produce the file st2gpx.tmp
Have you seen this error? I'm using version3.09 of the tool.
