...do I need so I can load all of the USA maps to one card - or can it even be done? I know you can select just some maps but I'd like to be able to take them all in one go and not think about where I may go...

Having got the new card - is it just a case of CD in, software on PC and load maps away - not sure about this registering thing - do I have to register my unit first then the software in some way...to date it just worked from the box so that's how I use it....

Dumb questions I know.. Embarassed

I have a 256 meg SD card and it works fine for me, I have Southern/Central California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico on it. I still have room for another state like 1/2 of Texas or Colorado. A 512 would allow about 6-8 states on them. I find for me that the 256 card is plenty, I can if I go to other area's change them around pretty quick.

...so what exactly do you load to each SD card? Do I just put in a blank one start the desktop app and it loads the maps - or must there be something on the card (apps?) in addition if so what? Thanks all...

Start the Icn with the SD card installed and plugged into the USB connector. put whatever CD Rom with map regions in your CD Drive. Open up the SmartST desktop and then you will be able to transfer over maps from the states into the Icn. You don't have to load anything on the SD card prior to this.

Even with a 1GB SD card, you can't load all 50 states. Probably about 90%. I don't know if anyone has tried a 2GB card, but it could probably load all of the US and Canada.
