Cheers Clive, I've taken the liberty of editing your post to reduce the size of the link, hope you don't mind
FWIW I Installed this afternoon, no problems sync'ing although I can't see anything new.
Haven't tried with Memory-Map as yet which broke when v3.71 appeared though! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Personally I wouldn't want to be one of the first to try ActiveSync 3.8, just in case it starts breaking things.....but hey, what the heck. Lets see what it breaks! |

Have been using 3.8 for a couple of days now with no problems, only thing I find strange is there copyright 1996 - 2003, you would have thought they could of updated that, makes you think its not a genuine version.

The information floating around on the various Pocket PC sites is that this is a very minor change from ActiveSync 3.7.1 Build 4034.
It seems that there's just two changes - one is to do with avoiding a warning from the Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2, the other is that synchronisation over a network connection is off by default and has to be enabled.
Could someone who has installed 3.8 post the "Build" number (do Help -> About Microsoft ActiveSync in the ActiveSync window).
Apparently ActiveSync 4 is under development as part of Windows Mobile 2005 (likely to be RTM in April). Apparently one change in WM2005 is that Pocket PCs will move towards more use of non-volatile storage - maybe this is why a lot of recent devices have 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM.

Thanks for that - it's a big jump in build number. It may be that there's significant changes "under the hood" that remain, as yet, unmentioned (such as WM2005 support - the release notes for 3.7.1 build 4034, which adds WM2003SE support, don't mention that if I remember rightly).
However, it could well genuinely be the minor update that the information I've seen has mentioned, whilst the WM2005 version of ActiveSync remains in development. (Supposedly WM2005 will release to the device manufacturers in mid April).

Sorry to say guys - I installed it from AS 3.7 and found that Memory Map 3 didn't get beyond the flash screen, it was just as it was when I upgraded to AS 3.7.1 - it looks as though I will have to downgrade to 3.7 again!
It would be nice if MemoryMap and Microsoft could get their acts together!

It's a Memory-Map issue not Microsoft. They (MM) didn't follow guidelines hence the problem. It is fine with MM2004 but they haven't seen fit to correct it for users of previous versions _________________ Darren Griffin |

Just my experience...
I installed MSactivesync 3.8 2 days ago and I've tested about 30 apps with no problems. I've also installed 8 new ones with no issues. Most importantly - I'm running Tomtom 3.3 with traffic, all OK.
I'm using an e800 with WM2003SE.
Let's hope this isn't another Activestink :D
Cheers,

If someone is interested in the changes/updates included in the latest ActiveSync version released by Microsoft here is a link.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/as-new38.mspx
3.8 Version is only mentioned specifically regarding the Enhanced Desktop Security. |

If you'd have read my post earlier in the thread you'd have known that network synchronisation is off by default in 3.8!
As I said, the information I've seen from Microsoft (though second hand) is that there's just two small changes in 3.8 over 3.7.1 Build 4034 - one to do with inter-operability with the Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2, and the other than network synchronisation is off by default.
