|
|
Can anyone help. I have just bought an XDAIIs and tom tom 3 with an Altina GGM 308 wired mouse. My problem is that I cannot seem to get the gps to talk to the xda. The led on the gps mouse is flashing, which i think means that it is working but i only get the "gps unreliable" message on the tom tom gps nav page.
The problem may be that I am unsure as to what settings i should be using on the gps setup page. I have tried NMEA 0183 4800 with com 1 serial port but with no joy. I have also made sure that the IR is off as I have heard that this can affect com1. Am I missing something odvious or is the hardware incompatable?
Please help. |

NMEA@4800 is correct but COm1 is not. On my XDAII it's COM5. You can confirm successful connection by switching to the GPS Status Tab in the GPS applet, a line of moving dots will indicate communication with the GPS receiver and you will eventually see your Lat / Lon Co-ordinates once a lock hs been acquired.
If you don't see the line of scrolling dots then you have the wrong COM Port configured. Oh and don't forget to tick the box to enable the GPS when you change settings! _________________ Darren Griffin |

i think you might have to play about with the com port as the i think ( and im not 100% in this) that com 1 is taken by the keyboard so you may need to disable this to get it to work or go for a bt receiver
darren thats for bt hes useing a wired reeiver _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Good bye IOS don't let the door hit you on the way out .

Oops, sorry I thought I'd read you were using a BT receiver!
In that case COM1 is normally correct but as the XDAIIs has the slide out keyboard you may have to disable this to allow access to COM1.
I've not had an opportunity to play with an XDAIIs so can't be sure here, it is possible that the sync port is set to COM2 to get around this. _________________ Darren Griffin |

hmm i wonder if you will be able to fully disable the keyboard driver? On the HP 6340 you cant disable the keyboard so the serial cable is useless.
Make sure you turn off IR, click on start, settings, connection, Beam. _________________ Regards

Thanks for everyones replies. I had to dissable the ir to make comm 1 work but still no joy. The seller has put another cable in the post as I suspect that was the problem. If not I will be back on here in a few days for more help. |

Steven,
that's entirely incorrect. You can disable the keyboard (remove the shortcut from the startup folder). But the keyboard is not serial, it's some proprietary protocol. The serial port is missing from the connector because it is used in the phone multiplexer of the 63xx.
Ok, so it's not entirely incorrect. The serial cable is still useless ;-) _________________ Lutz

aww i was wrong DOH, i can just remember a lot of problems with keyboard drivers locking COM1 ie not allowing the GPS receiver to communicate with the PDA. _________________ Regards

No Problem. I just opened the 63xx snap-on keyboard and sure enough there is a OTP ROM inside doing all kinds of magic with a contact grid and a pulsed data line. _________________ Lutz

hello i have an xda iis that i am trying to use with my gps v via a serial connection.
i am using the memory map software.
the post above imply that the xda does not have a valid serial connection on the bottom connector is this so?
I have tried all the other ideas like.
unchecking the beam box
not using serial on autosync.
i cannot see an keyboard prog in startup - i have the slide out kb
i have tried a hard reset!
any more ideas to try |

i have tried posting on there forum and followed there advice but to no avail.
it is not memeory map however as i have tried pocket streets and easygps which give a simple display of what is coming in the port.
I need to find my multimeter to check that the cable is correct next i think!
has anyone successfully connected an XDA IIs to a GPS via a simple serial link ie only ground Tx and Rx? My GPS is a Garmin GPS V. |
