Too much choice, not enough info!

I was confused before, but know I have information overload and really don't know which is the best system for what I need.

I'm skiing in Whistler for 2 months soon and want a GPS system/ software that I can carry with me. I need it to:

Tell me where I am - height as well
Record where I've been
Allow me to label routes with piste names for future reference
Allow me to download where I've been to my laptop (windows) so I can post my day's adventures on my website
Get me places in the UK by road and foot

I've seen software - Fugawi and Mapsource that both look pretty good, but can't find the relevant Canada versions for sale in the UK.

I'm also unclear about whether I can download stuff to my PC from some of the units.

Am I best off with a PDA with a GPS thing added on as they havemore memory, or will this just increase the chance of me falling over and breaking it - I fall over a lot
