Hi, I’m new to this so 'scuse any idiocy. I am considering buying either a navman 4410 or 4420 to run with my XDA2 but none of the traders I have spoken to seem to be able to tell me the difference. So far I believe the 4410 has the smartST version 2 and the 4420 has version 3. First question, so why is the new version around £50 cheaper if it is “better”? Second question, what are the differences?

I am planning to use it mostly in a vehicle but would also want it to be suitable for walking/cycling, so around pedestrian zones and out in the stix and, a very tall order, inland waterways, canals/rivers etc too. (Don’t want much do I!) Any thoughts?

Cheers
Nic

Welcome to the forum.

Interestingly enough the 4420 is not even mentioned on the Navman website...

Thank you for my welcome, I'm feeling at home already ;-) 4420 as advertised at mncgroup.com, expansys.com and handnav.com none of them give a particularly clear explanation of difference.... and very interesting that it's not on Navman site as, like you, thats one of the places I though to look too.. silly me ;-)

OK, I gave up trying to find out the difference and just bought one.

PROBLEM,

Navman Smart ST V.3 with latest updates on pc and pda
XDA2

The XDA2 recognises the bluetooth GPS device but describes it as NAVMAN GPS ONE (not NAVMAN BT GPS for which there is a numeric code for the PIN), the Password for the gps device is an alpha code and the XDA2 does not accept alpha characters only numeric ones.

FWIW you answered your own question in your original post.

the 4410 has the smartST version 2 and the 4420 has version 3.

Q) So why is the new version around £50 cheaper if it is “better”?
A)
4410 comes with full EU maps
4420 comes with UK and Ireland only (the rest must be unlocked by purchasing an additional key)

If you have any further queries... just ask.

well after pulling lots of hair out (and I don't have lot to spare) we are finally there Laughing navman europe curiously don't mention the 4420 until FAQ's. One of the patches for the XDA2 is in German but fortunately I did't need it just the second patch, none of which detracts from your advice so thanks guys, and spot on with the differences. Shame the retailers aren't as helpfull, oh and navman didn't even reply to my emails.

off I go to play. :D
