|
|
I'm currently working in Switzerland near Zurich. I have found my Satnav to be essential out here, but I have to say that it is still difficult to follow the directions given.
This morning was very peculiar, it seemed that our position was pushed to the left by approximatel 40 feet. It even showed the arrow marker as being on the opposite side of the road at some points.
Has anyone else experienced these type of incidents?
I do recall a time when I was using it with memory map software in the Lake District and at one point it did the same thing. When you're walking it is even more noticeable!!
When I switched ot off and then back on it seemed to have corrected it's position.
I'm currently running SmartST V2, though obviously considering an upgrade to V3 |

40 feet is still within the expected HDOP (horizontal dilution of precision) - the GPS accuracy is in the range of 5 to 15 meters without DGPS.
So - this is expected behaviour. _________________ Lutz

It could well be a mapping error. There have been odd occasions in the past (v2) where my position has been shown to the left or right of my actual position when driving although I can't recall the locations.
It could also be a Maplock error. This is supposed to keep you on the road so if there is an error you will drift off.
Generally though I have found the 4100 to be very accurate with OS maps. as accurate as 1 metre in some cases. _________________ Ian.

Must admit this has also surprised me as well. Actually it has frustrated me more.
Still I'll try it out again today when I head back to the airport for my flight back to the UK today.
Another challenge is the number of long tunnels I have to go through to get to the airport. Some of the exits are out of the middle of the tunnel, so I'll have to keep track of distance. At worst though all I need to do is follow road signs for Flaughafen!
Seido mount has been particularly good with using hire cars and having to be portable. |
