SD-501 position stops updating after 5 seconds

I am using the SD-501 with a Loox 720. It has no problem getting a lock, but in gps info after 3 to 5 seconds everything stops updating, and all screens stay the same.

The red light still blinks indicating it still has a fix.

The problem is there with Tom Tom 3 and pocket streets. Both are fine for a few seconds then stop. If I restart the app it will work for a few seconds again.

I have tried hard resetting the pda.

I've changed the driver to the 1 bit driver and now it seems to be working. Is there any disadvantage to the 1 bit driver?
