No maps activated!!!!!!!! But they are honest

Hi, I am still quite new to all this, got my Ipaq 2210, fortuna clip on Tom Tom3 (version 3.03) checkpoint and Arkon powered mount.So last night thought I would give it its first run. At the in laws in Romford set it to navigate the the Brother in Laws about a 12 mile journey. Off we went it was directing us fine, the girlfriend was even impressed (believe me that takes something when it comes to my toys) down the A127 we went, showed a couple of petrol stations and then froze. So i reset it and again it was fine then it froze. Hmm I reset it again by this time we was down some country lanes. I got it back on track then it took us the wrong way. Now this was not going down at all well with the missus. Once home I looked up on these forums regarding tom tom and 2210 (I had read it before) So today I took the advice of some of the members and loaded the update 3.07. I thought everything was going well, so I also downloaded checkpoint 3.02(think that is the right numbers) Now I can't start checkpoint!!!!! When I start up Tom Tom it tells me there are no maps.. What is going on, I need to get this thing sorted, or her indoors is gonna have a field day with me and taking the Pee out of me.... Embarassed

Please accept our commiserations. We"ve all been there...

If you can, remove tomTom and CheckPOInt completely, and then ONLY install TomTom 3.07. Don't worry - they call it upgrade but it is a full blown version.
If possible, don't install TomTom GPS 3.07 - install 2.07 instead (from our downloads page)

Thanks for your empathetic reply, I have gone to the download page and looked at the upgrades but it says that 3.07 tom tom also installs 3.07 gps so can I install both and then delete the gps and replace it with 2.07. Should I reinstall checkpoint at all???? I have also just ordered a viking 256 CF card to replace my 512 kingston sd card for the maps.

For troubleshooting you should first try without CheckPOInt.

You can download TTN3.07 and TTGPS3.07 separately.

The Navigator 3.07 upgrade includes both Navigator 3.07 and GPS 3.07. For some reason, the Navigator 3.07T upgrade - which is only for those with a TomTom Traffic subscription or trial - doesn't include GPS at all.

I don't find GPS 3.07 that bad. It does hook into the Bluetooth stack on many Pocket PC 2003 iPAQs, but if it does, you can remove the hook by uninstalling it once (soft reset, then Start Menu, Settings, System tab, Remove Programs, tap on TomTom ~ GPS, tap Remove, OK for a mandatory soft reset). If you lost TomTom GPS by doing this, just reinstall it.

GPS 3.07 doesn't appear to hook into the Bluetooth stack on the latest iPAQs using the Broadcom (nee Widcomm) 1.5.0 Bluetooth stack.

The 'hook' is reportedly much less invasive on GPS 3.03 onwards even on the machines where it is installed.

I suspect the problem here is more likely the previously reported stability issues when using an iPAQ h2210, Bluetooth GPS, TomTom Navigator 3 and SD memory. Darren reckons that using CompactFlash memory for maps is the only way to make such a setup stable. It seems to be something with the 2210; I have no problem using this setup on an iPAQ hx4700.

You may find turning off the display of POIs when navigating helps - you can leave your POIs installed, just don't have them displayed. This is easily done in the map view by tapping the 'two sliders' icon, then unticking the POI box.

It may also be that you have a bad SD card - there's a couple of types out there that seem very unreliable in Pocket PCs (one type is so bad I can break it in a card reader connected to my PC). I'm not sure Kingston have shipped any of the affected types, but if you post the markings from the back of the SD card I can let you know if I recognise the card as a troublesome type.
