Hi pacemaker1000,

You will need a storage card, I think the 168 takes SD cards only – but please check. You will want a minimum of 256MB but 512MB would be better. Thumbs Up

The other thing is to buy a copy of Sprite Back and use it regularly. It is a real saver!!!!! Thumbs Up

The other main things you need are patience and perhaps a sense of humour. When you first get the kit fully charge it and spent a bit of time getting used to the PDA (especially if you’ve never had a PDA before).

Install TTNav3 and have a play with it. Use Sprite Backup. You may need to download the latest version of TTNav (currently 3.07), if necessary install that and backup.

After you are used to the set-up add CheckPOInt and add our camera database, again backup.

Finally add the Post Code add-on, again backup.

Can you see the reoccurring message here? ;)

Regards,

Hi,
I have a Mio 168, and it is an excellent piece of kit. I can confirm it does only take SD cards.
I would advise using Checkpoint 2.02, not the later version - which would not install on my Mio.
Another little point, it is always checking Settings, System, Memory, Running Programs and then click Stop All before running Tom Tom. I have found it often won't start if another program is running in the background.
Apparently Pocket PCs do not automatically stop running programs even when you have clicked exit or whatever!

You mention Sprite Back for back-up, which I have seen mentioned before, but where can I get hold of it?

Cheers
Leigh

Hi LeighB,

I recommend Sprite Backup Premium which is only $US29.95. Some PPCs (e.g. HP iPAQs) come with a cut down version of Sprite Backup. If you have one of those PPCs then you can upgrade to Sprite Backup Premium for only $US10.00. Thumbs Up

Regards,

Hi pacemaker1000,

Whilst this isn’t software, I would recommend that you get a WriteSHIELD Screen Protector. You need the “Pack 2” pack for a Mio 168. Thumbs Up

Before I start to use a new PDA I fit a screen protector to it. A screen protector is much cheaper than a new screen! WriteSHIELD make very good screen protectors. Smile

Regards,

There's actually many more WriteSHIELDs than are available through the link Robert posted. Expansys have the full range here in the UK.

There's two options now - the original WriteSHIELD has been rebranded WriteSHIELD AG (Anti Glare), and there's a new WriteSHIELD C2. For machines used for in car navigation, I suggest the WriteSHIELD AG, which both my iPAQs are wearing.

If you have the option, I suggest buying a WriteSHIELD deluxe pack which includes some very good cleaning spray (which I also use on flat panel monitors and my laptop) and a microfibre cleaning cloth.
