GPS for Car and Mountain Bike use

I am interested in purchasing a GPS system to do the following :

In car use
Attach to mountain bike for off-road routes

I currently have a IPAQ 3870 which could or could not form part of the system, I am totally new to GPS but the type of things I would like to be able to do are :

In car :

Provide directions to locations either by post code or address
Directions to by visual (voice may be useful)
Directions in the UK, and Europe from time to time.
Powered from 12V in car
Receiver functional within car with heated screen
Car mount so that unit is hands free
Traffic reports as a possible upgrade at a later stage.
Ability to plan route from PC and download to GPS System

On Bike

Unit to record route I have taken and allow it to be re-traced
Route to be downloadable to PC and saved for use later on
Route planed via PC and uploaded to GPS
Unit that can either mount on handlebars or fit into backpack to just record route, (thus I assume aerial would have to be visible)
Rechargeable batteries

I would ideally like a unit that could do both of these, i.e. give me directions to a location, un-strap the bike and GPS and then have a route in the GPS for where I am going

Any thoughts would be appreciated, I have looked at various internet sites for inspirations but generally am just confused, my current choice seems to lie between :

Garmin Foretrex 201, with it linking to IPAQ for in Car
Garmin GPSMAP 60CS to do both in and out of car
Magellan Meridian Colour to do both in and out of car (I believe this can also have the OS maps displayed in the background, which sound a real benifit)

I also need any suggestions with respect to software, I am thinking of Memory Map for cycling but not sure for in car perhaps TomTom ?
