Hi guys,

I would like to get some experience from people how already have the PDA pocket PC+GPS bluetooth solutions.

The question is, how convenient is to use navigation when hiking or bicyle riding? The thing is, that you probably don't need to look at the screen all the time, so the PDA is switched off (to save power) for some time until you need to confirm the direction or to find out the location, right?

When you switch the PDA on again, the bluetooth connection has been lost, and has to be restored, also the GPS device has some warm start right?

So I wann aknow, how many seconds does it take to restore navigation after standby ?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

You shouldn't have any problems in achieving what you are looking to do.

I would suggest that you buy a BT GPS that has a good battery life and leave it running for the duration of your walk/journey. That way it holds onto your position. My particular model lasts 11 hours comfortably.

You can then switch your PDA on and off as and when you need it and it will establish the connection and locate you within a few seconds on your chosen software.

I do the very same while travelling in my motorhome and using TT3. I like to shut down TT3 & turn the PDA off during rest periods but leave the BT GPS running throughout the duration of my day's journey. On restarting the PDA, it immediately picks up it's BT connection and TT3 can then be restarted and will continue your journey as though you hadn't paused.

There are several good BT receivers with good battery life on the market and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Globalsat BT-308 amongst them.

Steve
