Are the algorithms on how Tom Tom calculates routes 'Top Secret' or is there anywhere that gives a rough explanation on how it works. For no reason other than I was interested.
I wondered if it takes in to account things like - it probably takes longer to go right at a junction than left etc.

It can be summarised as this:
1 - Take current location co-ordinates
2 - Take destination location co-ordinates
3 - Calculate route.

Probably note exactly how TomTom works, but Google for 'shortest path graph algorithm' should give plenty of info on the work of Dijkstra et al. |
