.NET software (including GPSAssist.NET) on the iPAQ hx4700

It appears there is a bug in the ATI graphics driver DLL on all current iPAQ hx4700 ROMs. Affected software, which includes GPSAssist.NET 2.1.1.14 and most other software using the .NET Compact Framework, tends to crash on startup.

The solution is to flip a registry value and soft reset - there's a description of what needs to be done at this thread at brighthand.com and a tool that does it for you on the next page to that I've linked. I skipped the tool and used a registry editor on my hx4700.
