|

Have been running SamrtST V2 since around January 2004, with only the usual moans about routing and addresses.
Then I found an application that can allow more than one application to use the same (virtual) COM port called GPSgate, which allowed me to run a safety camera warning app alongside SmartST.
Now for some reason that I can't see, SmartST won't boot up.
I have mailed Navman technical support, but thought I would also post here to see if anyone else has experienced this before.
In the meantime I have removed GPSgate and re-installed SmartST and re-activated it, all without any success!
Please help |

SmartST is extremely memory hungry (it's pretty much the only program that doesn't run on 32 MB RAM machines).
Try removing more applications or moving them to the storage card, and then try again. If you don't have a task manager then you will need to do a soft reset before you try to run SmartST again. _________________ Lutz

Hi Matt,
I am running the same two apps as you and everything works fine. The only difference is that I have a 2210 and I used the v1.10 beta of GpsGate.
As to why Smart ST won't boot up I've no idea. Try allocating more memory to programs and make sure nothing else is running in the background. I currently have 31MB allocated.
If you still have no luck I would consider a hard reset then reinstall everything. _________________ Ian.

Thnaks for the advice, I have tried allocating more memory to Programs with no success, but I did notice that after selecting Naman icon, the start bar had "No Title" in it.
Any idea what that could mean? |

There have been occasions in the past when applications, including Smart ST, have refused to load up for me. This I presume is down to resources on the PPC running too low. A soft reset has cured the problem every time though.
The only explanation I can think of is that part of Smart ST has been corrupted somehow on the PPC and reinstalling isnt overwriting it???
I presume you did soft reset before reinstalling Smart ST?
If you have any files on the iPAQ that you need I would pop them into the file store or put them on the storage card and perform a hard reset. I know it's a last resort but it will save hassle in the long run.
Let us know how you get on. _________________ Ian.

Well I did a hard reset and as I had done a back up on Monday, when it was all still working I thought I would use that to restore.
After waiting for it it to finish, it still doesn't work!
I am still waiting for Navman to reply to my mail, maybe I'll give them a ring |

Hi MattB
Your best bet is not to wait for an e-mail reply from Navman but to give their Technical Service Department a call. I'm sure your problem will be resolved a lot quicker.
Regards

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhh!
Thank the lord for Navman Technical Support!
All it was .......
Ready?...
Because I had GPSgate, that had to be running before I could start Navman!!!!
When I didn't have GPSgate, Navman would always start Bluetooth manager for me, but I guess that GPSgate doesn't boot automatically!
Anyway, thanks to all those who chipped in with this problem, isn't it great that we have such a helpful forum! |

GpsGate runs as a background task so I didn't realise it was running all the time. When the iPAQ is switched off, GpsGate is still running in the background when it is switched back on.
In the other thread I said that I recreated your fault but... when I soft reset I started GpsGate up then Navman which would explain why the resets worked for me.
With markfrc reporting the same problem but not mentioning GpsGate I ruled it out, but it makes sense now.
This is one to remember.
Glad it all worked out in the end. _________________ Ian.
