I am lucky enough to have:

iPaq 5550
Cf Jacket
TomTom Nav soft.

all bought second hand. What I don't have is a reciever.

I am considering Fortuna Clip-On
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=108471

or Emtac
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=112532

Can anyone give me thier thoughts as to which I should choose, or an alternative in about this price range.

I also plan to get an Arkon mount, again is this a good idea or not?

Hi Deeps,

I’d prefer to go for a BT GPS receiver that has a user replaceable battery. This allows the removal of the battery to perform a reset.

As far as BT GPS receivers go, people seem to be happy with both the Fortuna Clip-On and the Navman 4100.

If you want a mount then Brodit do some good holders for the PDA and custom mounts for your vehicle.

Regards,

Thx for the quick response :D

I hadn't come across Brodit, they seem to produce a holder with an amplified speaker, just what I was looking for as my 5550 falls down a bit in that dept. Wink

A friend has offerd me a second hand Navman 4410 for £175, is this a good deal do you think? epansys have them for £203.95

I'm not yet convinced that replaceable batteries are an important buying factor, given the speed with which the market develops I would expect most users to be tempted towards better receivers with additional functions or better sensitivity long before the battery starts giving up the ghost. I use my TomTom BT GPS every day and it's been going over a year now with daily charges and no visible effect on battrey life as yet.

Having said the above the Fortuna is a good unit, the Emtac is agetting long in the tooth now.

I would however get a decent mount, take a look at Brodit's range and read the reviews in our GPS Accessories section.

Any thoughts on the Navman 4410, the review here is of an older model, and the price, good or bad? 8O

It's a fine GPS and the ability to utilise standard batteries is useful but I'd rate the Fortuna higher and that is only £140.00 at www.handnav.co.uk so the Navman isn't much of a bargain.
