Hi folks,

Firstly, this is a brilliant forum and I've been reading it constantly for a couple of weeks now. I am very close to buying a TTG, and most of my questions have been answered by all the postings. One thing tho, can anyone say whether map updates from TT will be free downloads or will this be an added cost over a period?

That one has been answered lots of times. Unfortunately the answer is that the next map update is TomTom4.

TomTom in common with almost every other vendor don't offer interim map updates as such. These are made available as part of application version upgrades and these attrcat a nominal upgrade fee.

e.g. TomTom1 maps were updated with the introduction of TomTom3 and the the same applied to the upgrade to TomTom3. In each case more features were made available as part of the application upgrade (3D Maps, Traffic etc) and the upgrade to registered users was £30 or thereabouts. If you look at this as a map upgrade fee then it's still cheap. The Nav system DVD in my Jaguar was recently upgraded (to 2003, the latest Jag offer!) at a cost of £200+.

Thanks guys. I meant to post this in the tomtom go forum but created a new one by mistake. I agree that £30 isn't too much to spend, however. My last printed atlas of the UK was nearly £20!

You both talk about TomTom 1, 2 and 3, but will this still be the case with TT go?

We can only make assumptions at to TomTom's future policy, GO is based on the common platform engine that is already deployed on the PalmOS version and will be availabale on the PocketPC in a future release.

Because GO is a different beast being a hardware nav system it is feasible that TomTom will introduce a different system for making map updates available but they have not announced anything so it's anyones guess.
