Hmmm Strange one this.....
I have checkpoint 3.1 on my Ipaq 2210 and have the speed camera database loaded - works fine, or so it seemed.
Leeds City Council have kindly installed a large number of council Cash machines (Sorry - Safety Cameras!) on the A65 Abbey Road and its continuation A65 Leeds Road going past and on from Rawdon Crematorium - by large number I mean approx 8 or 9 (little tinkers have also hidden some of them behind overhanging trees etc - even though this is supposedly not allowed) anyway I was driving this road yesterday evening and was happily adding these cameras to my database as I passed them, including the correct speeds etc.
On my return journey I expected checkpoint to now recognise these points and warn me of them, but it didn't, anyone know why? I realise that at this moment only my copy of checkpoint has this information and I will gladly upload the info for future use of other users, but surely mine should now be aware of the situation and warn accordingly? Or do I too have to wait until the info has been added to the main database?
Anyone have any input on this?
Cheers

Hi Steve,
I don't have that version of CheckPOInt, but I think that it saves to different POI files. Have a look in your Map Folder on your 2210 and you may see new POI files.
If you're adding the cameras with their speed limit then I presume that there is a separate POI for each speed limit.

from memory (ive not sorted it myself yet) Checkpoint records a checkPOInt.ov2 file, and you ahve to do the same procedure with setting up sounds etc on that overlay file. Also you need to copy the camer .bmp file and name it checkPOInt.bmp (check the spelling and case sensitivty of the ov2 file as they need to match)
you should then be warned of the cameras when you approach. Well thats my interpretation anyway, hopefully its right!!! |

Cheers Lads
I think I've figured it out - I went into checkpoint and went to the files I had entered and then "added" them and lo and behold there they were in the map mode, so I think I've got it.
Will drive the road again this week to check it
Thanks

It's pretty tricky to capture points using CheckPOInt 3 and submit them to the Pocket GPS database. For this reason, I keep on recommending CheckPOInt 2.0.2 if you want to use the Pocket GPS database.

I don't think it's too difficult. Surely there are two ways...
1. I create a new POCKETGPS_SC_NEW file, and either use CheckPOInt or TomTom directly to add new SCs to this separate file - then I can simply email this file to the update email address for inclusion into the latest version (hmm, I must do this to add the cameras I have found).
2. If you add them via CheckPOInt v3, you can head off to the POIPlace website and list your activities, which will allow you to show all the POIs you have added to the databases - in which case again this list could be emailed to the update email address for inclusion.
