TomTom Launch One and XL IQ-Routes Editions

pocketgpsworld.comTomTom have launched two new entry-level devices in the ONE and XL ranges.

The 'One IQ-Routes' and the 'XL IQ-Routes', as their names suggest, both feature the latest TeleAtlas maps with IQ-Routes functionality as well as Lane Guidance. Neither of these features have been previously available on these models.

Both devices feature West- and Middle-Europe maps as well as 'petrol prices trial bundle'.

Although they share the same design as their lesser relations, the new IQ models have a black shell and rubberised coating that lends a more expensive look and feel to the units.

Also bundled is a free 3 month trial of their fuel prices and speed camera service with a subscription costing Euro 39.95 per year thereafter.

TomTom's web page listing the new devices can be found here.

XL and ONE IQ

Both devices are expected in stores by mid-April 2009 and start from Euro 159

Euro 159 and 199 respectively (Sorry, couldn't use my Euro key combo this morning.) Pricing on the existing One and XL models will be reduced around 30% to keep the new releases in line with the entry level market.

Ok, to clarify the issue of availability it has now been confirmed that these will be available initially in Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand only.

A UK/Holland launch will come later although we can perhaps speculate on why only those two countries were omitted from this launch?

Perhaps because, like in NA, there are still too many low-end models in TT warehouses that haven't made it out to the distributors. Once the inventory clears some more (assuming I'm correct), I expect them to be available in GB and NA as well.

Nope, at least that's not the reason I'm hypothesising. TomTom have rolled out HD in Holland and UK first in the past, I'm wondering if maybe there could be a model bundled with the long awaited HD accessory coming to our shores?

There's been some speculation that TT has had a change of heart and may introduce the HD accesory/receiver for the x20/x30 line after all. Sales of the x40 line have been disappointing according to a couple of sources. But I don't know why that would have anything to do with the XL or One IQ release. But I don't have an "inside line" to TT, so anything I might write is my opinion only. Maybe they have the entry level XL-Live in mind for GB?

From that link;
"3 Month FREE safety cameras & and petrol prices trial bundle"

How does it get the petrol price data?

Same wahy you get the Speed Camera Data from TT. Downloaded through TT Home as per the x40 range most likely. Although it won't be able to update over GPRS like the x40 once you are away from your PC....

This what I wondered, the x40s use the cell network to update, won't the prices be out of date if you don't connect via TT home all the time? Does it download the entire country's petrol prices, or just locally to you? Just curious, I'm not getting one. ;)
