Telenav and Red Bend have been demonstrating their new solution for keeping built in SatNavs up to date. It has long been a complaint of in-dash device owners that map update DVDs are ridiculously expensive and their lack of POI support a real pain. Telenav and Red Bend's solution uses 'Scout for Cars' to allow maps and POIs to be updated wirelessly.

Little detail is known about the system and there are still a few questions I'd like to ask. For example: Does it offer a complete map update or is it minor updates to existing data like TomTom's MapShare? Does the user need to download the map data to the phone before it can be transferred to the vehicle?

Questions aside, it is good to see that manufacturers have finally realised that outdated maps are a real pain and that people are actively looking into ways to improve this for the end users.
