Tele Atlas to offer HD Traffic Solution to OEMs
Tele Atlas have today announced they are offering HD Traffic data to their OEM clients.
Using the same data as TomTom's HD Traffic, Tele Atlas HD Traffic offers a solution that can be used by other manufacturers who use Tele Atlas map data.
Tele Atlas HD Traffic contains data from multiple sources including anonymous GPS measurements, mobile phone signals, road sensors and sources. This information is combined and when added to a navigation solution it allows software to offer alternate routes based on live up to the minute traffic data.
Tele Atlas HD Traffic is available to customers in the personal navigation, phone, fleet, government and factory fit markets and requires the device be data enabled or 'connected' in order for it to be supported.
TomTom's HD Traffic has proved relatively accurate after a rocky start, the opportunity for other customers to offer this data may see a raft of connected devices in the market if the economics of the subscription and data costs can be over come.

A good move for TeleAtlas, keeping them in competition with Navteq who has been moving aggressively in the HDTraffic arena this year. So far only three countries are offered by TeleAtlas HD: Germany, Switzerland and Netherlands. It would be expected that the UK, Belgium, France and Portugal, the other countries with current TT HD, would be added sometime soon, tho not specifically mentioned.
