Swedish Drivers Get Paid to Slow Down
Article by: robert Date: 7 Dec 2010
The guys over at Wired report that a Swedish speed camera has been introduced which rewards Drivers when they keep to the speed limit. The self funding project is an initiative that is paid for by speeders who are caught speeding by the self-same camera.
It's a simple, but clever idea. When passing the camera, if you're speeding, you get a ticket as normal, if you drive at or under the speed-limit you automatically get entered into a lottery. All funds from the speeders fund said lottery.
According to the Swedish National Society for Road Safety, the average speed of vehicles passing the camera dropped from 32 kilometres per hour before the experiment to 25k.

Why? If more drivers go past the camera within the speed limit the prize money goes down and the odds on winning worsen.
