Sony announce new TomTom powered in-dash satnav head units
Article by: Darren Griffin Date: 22 Sep 2010
Sony have unveiled a range of new in-dash navigation units that will be powered by TomTom and will use the latest software as seen on the soon to be released on the GO 1000 LIVE.
The XNV-L77BT/ 770BT and XNV-L66BT/ 660BT are double-din sized head units. The XNV-L77BT has a 7” widescreen and the XNV-L66BT has a 6.1” widescreen. The L77 and L66 variants denote models that come with TomTom LIVE services.
The feature list is, as you would expect, extensive with support fort a wide range of media players including Sony Walkman, Apple iPod, iPhone and USB memory sticks. Integrated Bluetooth allows for wireless streaming.
The downside? These new units will also use HOME3 which has been heavily criticised for taking control away from users. So, for now at least, there will be no support for custom POIs or custom POI alerts.
Available from November 2010 and prices have yet to be released. Sony's press release can be viewed here and TomTom have a page catering for HOME3 downloads for GO1000 and Sony's new products here.

Being double DIN height rather restricts the number of cars these will fit in to though, a single DIN ISO unit with a motorised screen would have opened up more possibilities - Mike

Hmm not really, a great many cars have double-din openings these days, in fact it's becoming the standard nowadays.
