Smartphone GPS Usage Surges Ahead in China
Article by: robert Date: 4 Nov 2009
As China continues to open its access to businesses from the rest of the world, it will be interesting to see how the European and North American supply chain take advantage of the growing opportunities in a burgeoning Chinese satnav marketplace.
A strong Chinese smartphone market could offer a glimmer of hope for some struggling western satnav companies.
According to a report published today by market intelligence company In-Stat, China’s 2008 smartphone market witnessed a 30% increase over the previous year.
Up from 12% in 2007, smartphones made up 15.3% of total mobile phones shipped in China last year. Smartphone shipments in the region are projected to more than triple by 2013.
In-Stat analyst, Alex Liu, confirmed that apps, GPS and multimedia functionality were the main sales drivers.
