The Police and Crime Commissioner of Humberside, Matthew Grove, has said that he would favour hidden speed cameras.

He believes that certain types of drivers try to game the system and drive dangerously "as a hobby".

At a local borough meeting, Grove said: "It is people in high-performance cars going to and from well-paid jobs, either starting or finishing their shift and doing 60mph or 70mph on 30mph roads."

He added: "I would like to see cameras hidden in trees and bushes that are triggered if they are twice the limit. As it is, they know where the cameras are. As a hobby they drive dangerously."

The meeting's vice chairman complained that some of the speed indicator signs used in the area do not register speeds above 40mph on 30mph limit roads, but the Humberside Police casualty reduction officer responded that: "The reason there is a cut off is because of certain types of motorists compete to see how high they can get the sign to register."

It's reported in the Hull Daily Mail today that they are using cameras hidden inside tractor cabs, horse boxes and other agricultural vehicles. The police have apparently confirmed this and say they are mainly after high speed motorcyclists.
