New Speed Cameras Earn 40000 An Hour
Article by: rob brady Date: 7 Mar 2015
New speed cameras covering roadworks on the Køge Bugt Motorway in Copenhagen, Denmark appear to be earning their keep.
Speed camera police vehicles caught 978 speeders driving through roadworks in a 80kph zone.
In just five hours, they managed to rack up almost 2 million kroner in fines (almost UK£200,000). The individual fines equate to 2,000 kroner each (almost UK£200).
The usual penalty is half that amount, but because the offences happened in a construction area, the fines were doubled. A spokesman for the Mid and West Zealand Police told Jyllands-Posten: "Workers are vulnerable because they work so close to traffic - therefore Parliament has approved double fines where road work is going on."
Seven percent of the 14,000 motorists that drove through the monitored stretch were caught speeding.
