Garmin unveil pair of golf specific GPS devices
Article by: Darren Griffin Date: 23 Jan 2014
Garmin has taken the wraps of two new devices in its golf specific Approach range of handheld units.
Featuring colour touchscreens, the G7 and G8 are preloaded with more than 30,000 international courses and come with features including 'PlaysLikeDistance', which shows an adjusted range for those uphill or downhill shots.
Another feature, 'Big Numbers mode' presents all the vital information in large clear text on the screen including the distance to front, middle and back of the tee.
Tap a point on the screen and you can see the distance from your location to that point. You can also get club advice with the device remembering how far you hit using each club on previous rounds.
Both models are IPX7 rated for water resistance. The G8 sports a larger 3-inch display and WiFi. The Garmin Approach G7 will retail for £289.99 and the Approach G8 for £369.99 and will be available through speciality golf retailers.

I am interested as to whether this is allowable in competitions. It is illegal to use a device that measures slope of the ground, and the innovative "PlaysLikeDistance" feature seems to me rather too close to that.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Nexus 5, Galaxy tab S3. Also use OSMAnd+, Sygic Mobile Maps, and OS maps app. Also "Great Britain Topo Maps" and "Old Maps". Don't use speed camera database as sticking to the limit is safer. |
