pocketgpsworld.comALK are spreading some Christmas cheer with a free map update for CoPilot Live V8 users.

Of you use CoPilot Live V8 Europe on Android, iPhone/iPad or Windows Mobile then CoPilot have decided to issue a free map update, which is, all things considered, very nice of them.

The free map update is already available via Android Market for Android users and via CoPilot Central for Windows Mobile. iPad and iPhone users will have the update as soon as Apple approve it.

Evil or Very Mad I thought this was a good idea until I attempted to do it..... the first step is to wipe you old system....... yes it is! Unfortunately I did not see the consequences of this and am now rebuilding my Sat Nav settings .... if I can remenber them from a year ago. I am setting up my comms with my remote Blue tooth Reciever. I have lost all of my Favourites and recently visited places and have about 2 hours of work ahead of me..... great!!!
Can they not find a different way to upgrade a map?

I got as far as hitting the Download button for my licenced version, but no joy...nothing has happened...no status bar, no nothing.

Upgrade worked fine on my iPhone 4 via iTunes.
No need to uninstall/update your settings.

I upgraded via CoPilot Central yesterday and it was straight forward.

The old installation is removed before the new install but all the favourites and user settings (even the cameras) remain intact.

Upgraded via Central. No settings or POIs lost

I've gone through the update process several times and everytime I'm asked for my license number, I reactivate it which is successful but can't get any further. Now going back to a cold install but will wait a week or so before trying again. Not impressed Sad

I , too, have had to start from scratch again. I have three licensed maps which were not acknowledged by Central...ended up manually getting them 'OK'd'.

I've just seen that version 8.2.0.407 should be available through Central but although I have the latest version 2.2.0.34 I don't get notification that an update is available. Is there an ftp site where this is available? I've emailed ALK to see what they have to say as the latest version is needed in order for the new maps to work

I was offered 8.2.0.407 at the same time as the maps.

Any idea what changed in the latest version? No qwerty keyboard, obviously that is still scheduled for "soon". But did anything else change? I don't see it myself.
The map update itself is welcome.
