Excellent, thanks for the heads up on that Smile How did you find that? I was only talking with Brodit yesterday and they never mentioned it!

Anyways, that looks like a neat solution that allows you to mount it lower down and nearer.

I e-mailed them a few weeks ago and they said they were working on a prototype.
I did a follow up mail last night (5/10/04) to see how things were developing and they replied today with the link.

Personally I don't like the look of the mount. The mount itself I suspect cannot be flawed, but the TomTom GO base mount can. The base pivet that the meta screw thread goes through there's two flat horizontal pieces of plastic. These aren't that sturdy and I'd hate to try and mount the weight of a GO on these alone. This is going to be the single stress point on the mount and IMO would be liable to break.

Nothing wrong with the Brodit mount per se, it's the GO part it's going to use I don't think will be sturdy enough to hold up. Time will tell though...

I see your point but given that Brodit had to utilise the existing GO Mount Base because of the connections it contains I don't see that they had any other option.

Anyway, based on previous Brodit mounts I don't think they would under engineer it, I've never had any problems with any previous mounts, they're over engineered if anything and I can't imagine they would release one with a weak point.

You need to be weaned off those vent mounts, time you got proper ones ;)

Couldn,t agree more Darren, i have used the mount i designed since the beginning very, very, very similar to the Brodit one i wonder where they got the idea from?, but contrary to what Dave reckons, after being used everyday up and down the nations motorways it has never broken or sagged on the mount, in short it works perfectly, so i see no reason to suspect the Brodit version will be any different.
Time will tell.

Hi john, i think Mike posted some in the tomtom go review page earlier this year, try around about page 9 or so.
Apart from the plate Brodit have, the fundamental parts are along the same lines. Not bad for 20 minutes thought. Laughing

Sorry Darren, but it was a while ago.

Not a problem, I'd quite forgotten! To save others hunting, they are on this page.

But the difference with your mount is the gravity is still forcing it down onto the dashboard cushioning any vibration, where as the brodit one all vibration is going to be transferred to the lugs the spindle goes through.

Personally it's not something I'd like to test. In your situation it's fine because it doesn't really have anywhere to drop apart from on the dashboard. Using the brodit one, if it snaps it's going to drop to the floor or onto the central gearbox compartment.

Just my thoughts on the subject! I'd love to be proven wrong, but I've seen several returned units already with the mount snapped in this location, I just can see it being the weakest link in the whole chain. The broken samples I've seen are where people aren't resting the mount on anything and are trying to just suction it to the window and I can just see the Brodit engineered one will have the same problem. Like Darren says, it's not Brodit's fault, they're just coming up with another mount solution, but it's a weakness (IMO) in the original design of the GO Mount.

I'm still buying one though! I hate having things suckered to the window. Ordered from Nemesis GB and should be here next week. I'll let you know how it goes. If anyone gets one sooner i'm sure we'd be interested to no if it turns out to be any good...
