Does anyone know if there's a way to turn of the voice directions, I want to leave the sound on for my Speed camera warnings.
A lot of the time I know roughly where I'm going and would be happy just glancing at the screen from time to time. I find the ETA function very useful and just this a lot.

I've read around and there seems to be lots of interesting ways of achieving this but I can't get ant to work.

I've tried deleting a relevent .chk file then trying to select it, but it disapears of the menu. I then created a blank .chk file and renamed it, tried selecting this but the TT said it was an invalid voice file..... any other ideas????

Yep, I deleted data00.chk and left the dan.vif file behind. I then went into select voice and the "Dansk Brigitte" option had gone.

I got this info from a thread by you, cheers

Yes it can be done. You could make a new voice file using one empty ogg file for all the direction commands and switch to that voice when you only want poi warnings.
Haven't done it myself yet but if you search the posts you will find lots of info

Yep it can be done. I made a 1 sec empty wav file ,convertted it to a ogg. Copied it several times and renamed all the files turn left.ogg right etc and used viftool to make the vif and chk files.
Once the files are copied onto the sd card you have a new voice you can select which is silent.

Excellent idea Rayflan, thanks for posting the download. I D/L'd it with excitement, but when I loaded it up and tried it, I had a little problem. Although all the speech is now silent(so far so good) everytime I approach a roundabout I get EVERY POI warning chime going off at once. Since I live in Milton Keynes, this is no joke! Any ideas??

Sorry sir, what I meant was, the cuckoo noise I set for Tescos Cafes, the Polite chime I set for airfields, and the 'Star Trek' Siren I set for speed cameras, all sound off at the same time, ansd always when approaching a roundabout. Hope that is a bit clearer.

Regards

Hi Rayflan, I also downloaded your files for silent voice in anticipation.
Smile Oo Er missus. The silent voice choice works fine. All is well until the first safety camera warning then unfortunately I get partially muted bells in place of every direction instruction. Sad It's a great idea and I admire and respect your effort, but I've removed the files again. May give them another try when I've upgraded my GB map. I'm using TomTomGo Original upgraded to V5 on the original GB Map. Do your files work on V5.
Keep Up the good work.
Regards..........

The problems with silent voices are new to V5. For some reason the buffer isn't being initialised correctly so, if the clip for the silent instruction isn't long enough to clear a previous instruction (or warning bell), you still catch the end of it.

I had this problem with a silent voice file I'd made. I fixed it by saving 1 second of silence for each instruction rather than empty wav files. You can achieve a 90% fix by just doing this for "After" - as soon as you get an instruction that begins "After..." the buffer gets cleaned out.

Regards,
Mark.
