I'm thinking of buying an Expansys 512Mb SD card for TTG. I've seen threads where people have had issues with some SD cards - any problems with the Expansys ones? Is it simply a question of mounting TTG with new card installed, and then installing the application/maps from the CD? Presumably I would then go on to install the update over the original version? Thanks for any advice.

well that's what I in fact did. I mounted the TTGO w/ the original card. copied to a directory (including subdirectories); then, I ejected the old card, picked a new card, copied back the files on the new one and there you go. a copy of th eoriginal, now, with some more space left Wink

note that I happen to use an OS that grasps better what's inside hardware; it sees the TTGO as usb-storage.

Just done the same thing here with a Kingston 512k card and seems to be working fine...
P.s.... still don't have my Go carry case..Sad

I am referring to the IPAQs for instance yes, with the pocket windows versions. and yes they do crash. I have experienced it by simply using it. failed within minutes. sorry to say but peple who claim that their windows powered devices haven't crashed, haven't been using it, or telling something that's not really true. simply as that. sorry.

what are you apologising for? so your ipaq crashed, tough. Mine never did and i used it every day for 7 months, maybe i was lucky, maybe i just didn't stuff it up with all the garbage that some folk like to put on these things. So that makes me a liar does it?. Ah well you must know, so i suppose i will just have to live with it.

The main problem with Windows based devices (unlike Mac's) is that there's so many variants that can affect the overall equation and that can lead to crashes, memory leaks, lock-ups. It can range from installing software or utils that don't work that well or haven't been programmed too well, to just bad releases of ROM's, incompatibility with hardware.

Some people get away without having problems at all, others get lots of problems. I myself get tons of problems, mainly because of the hardware I test and the software I have to install.

A lot of the time it's just a lottery, the luck of the draw. This really is why most people do like to go for removable systems that are pre-installed and why there is a market for items like GO, iCN range, Garmin range.

You can still get problems even with those, I have had a few system crashes with iCN's in the past, a couple of crashes with GO and some slow downs on Garmin's. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's all technology, things can go wrong. Some people get it worse than others.

Thanks Dave, i fully appreciate what you are saying, and of course understand the fickleness of these gadgets we like to explore. Of course these things crash, i was just pointing out that perhaps i have been very fortunate in not suffering with my Ipaq, but to be labelled a liar or as close as damn it is not really acceptable, is it my fault that i havent had these misfortunes - it must be, as this joker seems to think that everybody has them. In fact i have had more crashes or more precisely lock ups with my GO system, but then i suppose it happens to everybody eh?.

well yes, you may have bene fortunate. so far each and every windows and palm os based PDA has crashed within an hour by playing at my hands. sorry if you think that I call you a liar. that wasn't the diea behind it.

regarding testing. I test software and hardware myself for a router company and test linux soft/hardware as well. I have tested windows software for a short time, but every 10 minutes a dead system is not fun.

the one and only reason to get the TTGO for me is the OS base it uses.

I happen also to use systems with uptimes of years. if a PDA crashes within a short time, no matter if that's due to the software installed or whatever, tells you something about the faulty underlying control code. we all know that that part sucks. anyways, next time please lookat the smiley behind the initial comment.

How about next time, you think first, and perhaps realise that what might work for you or may not work for you is just that.
Maybe perhaps if any of us want to buy a variant then before we waste our money we should avail ourselves of your gospel and save ourselves the worry.

let's end this discussion. it leads to nowhere. you seem not to understand smileys and I should have thought better because you seem to dislike facts. ok, so be it.

I bought the TTGO for stability as the other varians (all that I have seen, 7 different PDA's) _all_ have crashed in my hands and all of the owners reported the same. you are lucky as yours hasn't crashed, hasn't had empty batteries and loss of memory due to that. cool. you are a lucky man.

EOD for me. ps, try to understand this icon next time. --> Wink

try to understand that when you open your trap you are responsible for the self opinion that comes out of it, so if i put a smiley next to this that makes it all ok does it?.
Lets end this discussion you say, as usual with your last word opinion, Typical.

Bang what you like , i dont need, and will not put up with self opinionated people like this, casting his doubts at me just because his opinion didn't fit in with my experience of my system.
Sorry if this bothers you, but i just wont have it.

Yes Dave I AGREE it is Off Topic

I notice it's the same poster i had words with.

Getting back "On Topic" all software no matter what it is as bugs in it, hence patches come out. Plus the hardware is only as good as the user, and software is only as good as the writer of the program. Microsoft have been at it for years, and have they got it right???

Why does Tom Tom Go now require a valid GPS signal before it can plan a route??? Before upgrading to the latest software version I was definitely able to plan routes without having a sattelite signal. This is really annoying as I often used to plan routes indoors before going out. Sad

I experienced this as well, but not constantly. Sometimes I reset the TTGo, after I experience strange behaviours. In 4.40 I also noticed sometime a slow startup of the sat's on different occasions.
