Sad Sorry guys,

I have just been speaking to my contact in TomTom, and apparently the new release of the software is still in test at this moment. They obviously want to release it as soon as possible, but it aint going to be today. Crying or Very sad

No further dates were mentioned so I suspect that it will be quite soon, but no commitments are being made. I will let you know any further news as I get it.

Somehow i was expecting that it wouldn't be released.

I hadn't seen this thread, telling of the delay(before posting elsewhere)it seems that although the TT Go hardware is top notch, the after sales service is second rate.
I wonder if it was a case of a rush release for the product with little or no thought to the follow up services?
Early days yet,but like lots of new tech products this smacks of sell the goods and b~~~~~ the customer.

IMHO it's better to hold off and make it better than pushing out buggy software like some other big 'player' does.

I actually get the impression from talking to them that it is exactly the opposite. TomTom are taking great pains to ensure that the software is right (or as good as software can be). This means that their delivery times get longer. They get to a point where they cant win: They release early with some bugs in it and get slagged off for poor quality control. On the other hand they take time testing and then get accused of not caring.

I used to be in charge of a development team of 50 people so I know how difficult it is to get software into a ready state for launch. It is nice now to sit on the fence and let others take that pressure.

I was actually suprised that a release date was mentioned, as TomTom are always vague about release dates to the point of suggesting quarters rather than months let alone a specific date. I did wonder as well because if it is ready then why not release when it is ready rather than holdiong back for a specific date. I suspect that in the end it was a mix up and was a bit silly of me posting the news.

Mike B

I suppose your not to blame, you only reported what your contact said, so he's more to blame for giving you the 12th.

Anyway, we've got the main course, it's just a case of waiting a little longer for the desert.

Can you give us an aproximate idea when we can now expect this release? Are we talking days, weeks or months? Just so I know how often to keep checking this forum. Confused

We are talking weeks rather than months here.

I have just had permission from one of the TomTom directors to show the new software release at our Pub Meet on September 4th. He says he is 98% certain that it will be released by then but even if not we can still show it.

If you would like to see the TomTom Go complete with the new software release running the PocketGPSWorld.com Speed Camera database in action why not come along to our next Pub Meet. You will also have a chance to win some free GPS gear click here for details.

ok, so the POI's can ben changed w/ the new version. are there other points that are taken care of ? we had the sound/light discussion so far and was that also incorporated ?

the reall miss here is the keyboard layout. should hae been qwerty and selectable for those who can't handle this...

there also still is no in depth information of the unit self like the more exact hardware used.

just wondering and waiting.

The only changes we're aware of in the new version are POI's. There maybe some bug fixes also, but we're not aware specifically of any bugs fixed.

I agree, keyboard should be qwerty rather than an abcd keyboard. Regarding hardware, TomTom like other companies e.g. Navman try to keep the lids on what hardware are contained within. We know that the screen is a Pocket PC style screen, but the guts are more Palm/Pocket PC based running under a hybrid Linux.
