Hi
My old 720 is about to be retired, and I am looking at the XXL IQ.
I have a lot of personal POI loaded on the 720.
I am getting conflicting information on Google searches as to the present situation of loaing third party POI onto the XXL IQ.
Please can someone give me the dfinitive position?
If I can't load them, then TomTom ae going to lose a customer to Garmin ..........
Thanks |

You can put POI files on that unit, a couple of other points to consider though:
If you get the European version there isn't enough memory space in the device to hold the full European map so TomTom supply cut down "zonal" maps. Sure you can hold all four zones on the PC/ laptop and swap them around at will, but a long range trip across Europe now needs a Laptop to swap maps on the nav unit. No memory card slot so you cant get around the inadequate memory by adding a decent capacity card - Mike |

Thanks for the reply.
I am unsure what to do now.
I need a Sat Nav with full Europe mapping, and the possibility to load the US maps I have purchased.
I need to be able to load personal POI categories (including your excellent Speed Cameras).
I really like the big 5" screen.
Which TomTom would you suggest?

I'm not saying you don't, but I'm always surprised at the number of people who say they need FULL European mapping, ALL the time!
They must lead more exciting lives than I do!
The only TomToms with the 5" screen are the XXL and the Go1005.
Neither has an SD card slot, but the Go1005 does have 4GB internal flash memory so it should easily take the whole Europe OR the whole US map (or possibly the whole Europe and a cut-down US map at the same time.
You'll have to wait a bit for the POI's to be implemented on the 1005 though (hopefully not long now!) |
