Hi! We see you’re using an ad-blocker. We’re fine with that and won’t stop you visiting the site.
But as we’re losing ad-revenue from this then why not make a donation towards website running costs?. Or you could disable your ad-blocker for this site. We think you’ll find our adverts are not overbearing!

If it's primarily for walking and not routing, you could use Pocket Streets and download a New York map. This wouldn't give any routing information, but would be sufficient. The other option is to purchase a 1 month subscription of Mapopolis from Mapopolis.com. There's various levels of the subscription, you wouldn't necessarily need the full platinum edition, one of the cheaper options that just gives a map and GPS support would probably suffice.

I do recommend Vindigo, which is a subscription service but you can get a one month free trial. I can't remember if the maps work with GPS , It can tell you whats on, what restaurants there are nearby (with reviews for a lot of them), what gigs are on, whats on at the cinema, cashpoints, chemists, parking etc etc and from your current position tell you how to get there by foot or public transport with maps and written directions.
I was well impressed (impressed my NY friends too).
