Help Please With GPS Antenna Connections - Vauxhall -

Hi. I am new to this forum and would appreciate all the help I can get with this one please.

I have purchased a Pioneer AVIC-X1 Sat Nav unit for my Vauxhall Astra.
The unit came with a magnetic gps antenna which needs to be installed on the outside of the car and has a long thin plastic connection type socket on the end of it.

Now the problem is that my car's factory stereo had a GPS connection ( to use vauxhall/motorola's onstar services) and I have been told that the gps antenna is built in to the radio antenna which is quite bigger than the normal radio only type.

I have 2 feeds comming off the antenna, 1 I have used for the radio and the other (gps) I would like to use for the Pioneer sat nav to save having another one stuck on the boot. The connector for this the same as the radio connector a round connector (about the size of a 5p).

Is there an adapter available to make this work??

Are you sure you had a GPS in your factory stereo? It sounds like your factory stereo was one with a built in carphone - in which case I'd expect the other connector to be for the phone antenna, not GPS.

Whilst some Onstar installations have GPS, I don't believe the Vauxhall carphone ones do.

I'd agree with David on this. It's more likely your car was wired either for the built in car phone, or was pre-wired for a mobile phone hands free kit (which includes the GSM antenna with the radio antenna). The simple way to check this is to have a look at the antenna base - if it is shaped like a boot, then it is almost definitely the combined radio/GSM antenna, and not GPS.

A "boot" is a good way of describing the radio / phone antenna.

My Zafira has the radio / phone antenna as I ordered it with factory phone pre-wiring. My Nokia car kit is wired to the VDA connector and antenna (as is the power feed to my Brodit mount and Bluetooth GPS charger).

Having spoken to my brother who works for a Vauxhall dealer I can tell you that there are over 20 different parts listed for the base unit (piece fitted to body) and antennas that screw into it for the astra alone.

radio only
radio + gms phone single channel
radio + gms phone duel channel
radio + one of the above + GPS
then there are different types for year and body, the list goes on.
