I have TomTom Navigator running on my PDA (Loox 720 - Win Mobile 2003SE) with a TT bluetooth gps receiver. I would also like to use Microsoft Pocket Streets (or similar) with this gps receiver - but not both at the same time. Do I need to remove and reinstall the bt drivers and/or the software when I change between applications.
My purpose is to use TTN for car navigation and Pocket Streets for pedestrian (within city) use - perhaps in different countries.

It depends on what GPS Driver version you are using in TomTom. 2.07 or older and you'll be fine, any newer and you will either need to downgrade to v2.07 or uninstall the Tomtom~GPS entry.
Once you have done either of these you can use other GPS apps at will with no need to uninstall software each time.
For Info, v2.08 and newer TT GPS Drivers lock the BT Com Port for the sole use of TomTom. It was so digned to reduce user issues but is a royal PITA if you want to use other GPS apps. Simple to fix though _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for that.
As I have only just purchased TTN, I assume that I have the latest driver - how can I be sure?
Where can I get a copy of the older v2.07? (and of v2.08 as a fall back!)
And how do I go about uninstalling 2.08 and installing 2.07?
TIA

The driver version appears on the GPS Applet screen.
The simpler option it to uninstall TomTom~GPS under remove programs. _________________ Darren Griffin |

There it says v3.07 417/421. So what does that make it?

v3.07, the latest GPS Driver available. To add to the confusion, I have v3.07 and can use other GPS apps without making any changes whereas others have have had mixed success so it may be worth testing beforehand. If it does not work then uninstall the TomTom~GPS and retest. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks for that - will follow your suggestions.
Is there an easy way to reinstall TomTom~GPS if/when I need to? Hopefully I do not have to reinstall the complete TTN package. I note that on the TTN3 disk there is a gps directory with three CAB files - is it enough to copy these to the PPC and install them with cabinstl?

You can download the v3.07 GPS Driver from TomTom's website, run the installer and it will reinstate the TomTom~GPS although there really is no necessity to do so as its only purpose is to lock the COM Port, an undesired situation for most of us _________________ Darren Griffin |

Are you saying that TTN3 will communicate with the GPS receiver without TomTom~GPS or ANY TTN-supplied driver installed?

No! TomTom requires its own GPS Driver installed naturally, the TomTom~GPS entry is an additional applet that locks the BT Com Port, it is not the GPS Driver itself. hence uninstalling TomTom~GPS does not uninstall the TomTom GPS driver. _________________ Darren Griffin |
