TomTom have just released v2.01 of TomTom Navigator 2 to address some of the problems that people have witnessed.
This version fixes a problem that can cause TomTom Navigator 2.0 to become unstable, specifically on devices with the latest ROM revisions, such as the Compaq Ipaq 3970 or the Dell Axim. Under those ROM revisions, the application may freeze or even silently exit when trying to find out which city a certain location belongs to. This can only happen for very specific locations, but for those, it will happen every time. The most common circumstances under which you might encounter this problem are: - when you tap & hold such a location and turn it into a favourite location, or try to navigate to it
- when you pass such a location while navigating in "safe mode"
Version 2.01 also fixes a problem that can occur when you use the Contact application to show or navigate to a housenumber that is unreachable by car - initially resulting in a dialog box that shows a message without a location name ("Are you sure you want to navigate to?").

It's great that TomTom have released this update, but I still think their customer service is bad.
I registered my software with them (and bought it from them directly) - you would have thought they would have sent an email to registered users to inform them of this upgrade.
I sent a 'complaint / question' to their user support email address informing them of my instability problems. No reply to the original email, and no informing of the update via that route either.
My sense is that the folks at TomTom are a bunch of good programmers but are either too small, or too inexperienced to run a 'real' software company professionally.
I'm guessing within 24 months TomTom will either cease to exist, or (more likely) have been bought out by some bigger company. |

Aren't TomTom the same company that have been making Navigation products for about 5 years now under various other guises (Palmtop being the one I can remember)?
Take your point - was expecting an email myself too. I'm likening it to a smaller version of the problem Ikea initially had when they took off. _________________ What's going on? Where am I? |

It would be nice to get version 2 - having sent back the CD I have heard nothing else. _________________ Tim |

I finally got a reply to my email this afternoon (8 days later). In it they make no reference to the available upgrade. Someone needs to tell their support people about it.
Thank goodness for this website!!

I sent my CD back on 27/03 and I've received nothing yet other than an email to say that they do not know whether they have my CD or not because of overwhelming demand.
What are you supposed to do? |
