Random question but my mind has gone blank...
Does PND stand for:
1) Personal Navigation Device
2) Portable Navigation Device

When SatNav became mainstream, PNDs took over from PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) for navigation. Therefore I've always have taken PND as "Personal Navigation Device".

Also, as most PNDs don't work for long, without an external power source, they're not exactly portable. _________________ Richard

+3. I've always thought the 'P' stood for Personal. _________________ Anita

+ 0. I always thought it meant Private (bearing in mind it sometimes means Pterodactyl and sometimes, Pneumonia or Ptarmigan). _________________ Dennis

As it seems that there is no definitive answer, what's the point? |

I reckon it came up on a pub quiz MaFt went to and he guessed the opposite one to what they reckoned was correct. _________________ DashCam:

- not a pub quiz sadly...
I'm working though all the forums with a view to consolidating and/or re-grouping some of them. It was just something that cropped up in my list and I couldn't think if it was personal or portable as I'd seen both used!!

My five cents worth is that I have never heard'portable', always 'personal'
Here and HERE, but now I have looked, I can find as many referring to Portable.....
