|
|
I have made a lead that takes a laptop's RS232 +/-5 to +/-12v signal and outputs the TTL 0-3.5v signal used by the GR230, at the baud rate selected in GPSViewer. It all checks out ok on the oscilloscope.
I can use GPSViewer to send a command (eg DGPS on) at the selected baud rate, but the data keeps coming back at 38kbps.
Does the oem serial cable do anything else other than convert RS232 voltage levels to TTL?
How do I set the GR230's cable baud rate? |

If it uses a SiRF chipset then you can use Winfast navigator or Crux_View to set the baud rate. _________________ Lutz

Thanks for the tip.
Tried Crux-View. Got "Error changing baud rate" for everything except 38kbps. |

Even though that is unusual it should not prevent you from using the receiver, right? _________________ Lutz

I bought the GR230 because it did BlueTooth and wired output at the same time.
Its intended for a boat. The wired output is to feed a VHF radio emergency system, a radar, and a laptop. The BT is for a PDA out in the cockpit.
The radar and the VHF need 4800bps.
Graham Moy's recent post states that any baud rate can be selected. I just can't seem to find out how. |

Have you tried WinFast? _________________ Lutz

No. I'll have a go.
I'm still waiting to hear from Holux about it. |

Tried WinFAST from my 2210 via BT and RS232. Still get 38kbps back through the cable. Did an off/on of the GPS and got this text through the cable:

Still trying to get in touch with Graham at Holux.
PS the PC WinFAST link is down. |

Graham (was/is away as his wife was in labour).
WinFast PC link (on downloads page) appears to be okay, it's an off-site link so Leadtek FTP Site may have been down temporarily. |

I managed to have a chat with Graham this morning. He was very helpful.
He said run Holux's SiRFdemo program, switch to SiRF, them switch back to NMEA 4800.
Did this. Didn't work. Only 38kbps was available.
I've sent in another e-mail with a screen dump of the messages.
I'll wait for Graham to reply. |

I need to know if anyone else has been able to set the cable baud rate on a GR230, or whether its a firmware issue. |

Graham at Holux says he has no problem getting 4800 baud through the cable.
So I'm sending my unit to him for a checkup. |

I can confirm that I have also had 4800 through the cable without problems. Or was it 9600 ?! It certainly wasn't 38400. |

I sent my unit back to Holux UK. Graham confirmed that the cable baud rate was infact fixed at 38kbps, and that this was part of the "solution" Holux created to fix the previous problem of people disabling the unit by changing baud rate via bluetooth.
He is looking to see if he has any old units left, otherwise, I now have to find a box which will convert baud rates. |

Got an old unit back last week with the previous firmware. I can now change the cable baud rate from 38kbps to whatever I need.
Unfortunately, doing so disables the blue tooth data feed. Pairing is ok, but no data.
Graham at Holux has confirmed that I can't have both at the same time.
So buyers beware, simultaneous BlueTooth and Cable data only works on a GR230 if you are happy with 38kbps on the cable. |
