I've got on really well with my Nuvi during the last couple of years. Its become an intrinsic part of my daily planning kit.
What I would like to do, is upgrade to an Oregon 300 with the OS Discoverer add-on. If I do this, the Oregon will be used virtually all of the time as turn by turn navigator replacement for the Nuvi 250W along with its in car power kit etc.. Occasionally, about once a week, I will take it out for a walk in the hills for maybe 3/4 hours at a time. Very occasionally, all day for about 8 hours.
My question is first and foremost - will I experience an improvement in the daily turn by turn navigation or will be less good than what I have already ?
I've read enough reviews about the walking characteristics of this device to think that this will be good for that. But, will it be as good as, or better than my Nuvi for the turn by turn navigation ?
I can't justify purchasing this for walking only, because it just won't get used often enough, but if I buy it as a dual purpose device that would be justification enough for me.
Hope someone can help me with my question and thanks in advance.

Both devices use the same routing algorithm AFAIK. The Oregon highway use options are also much more extensive, levels of map detail more controllable, and you'll get the long-missing turn notification "ding". Really more like the options on the older StreetPilot series. But you won't get TTS on the Oregon, and the screen is smaller. I've used my very similar Dakota for road use several times. Works well, much more customizable than my nuvis. But even so, I still prefer my nuvis for road use. Easier to see and more responsive screen. _________________ Garmin 1695 / 255 / 760 w/MSN - Droid w/Google nav + Navigon - Navigon 8100T - Dakota10 - GPSMap76C - GeoMate Jr.
Thanks for the response gator... I hadn't though of TTS, though I hardly ever use this except when I'm in a tight route where I need to keep eyes on the road around town. So, would I miss not having this or not, I'm unsure of that at the moment.
