Help! My TomTom can't find its maps anymore.
I have a beautiful iPaq 4705 which has served me well for several years. Yesterday I got in the car to go somewhere, but TomTom couldn't find its maps. I opened the FileManager, but there were only a few TomTom files on the SD card. Today I put the SD card in my notebook, and all the map directories and other files are there just fine. But the iPaq can't see them.
The iPaq doesn't make that *plink* noise when I remove/insert the SD card anymore, which has got to be a bad sign.
Is there any way to test and see whether the SD reader has failed or what to do about this? I really can't afford an upgrade right now, and doing without satnav is not an option.
Please advise. |

Have you also got a CF memory card installed? - If so take that out when you fire up the navigation application, once its running you can pop the card back into the device. I never got to the bottom of why this occurs but I have seen the fault on a couple of 4700 iPAQs - Mike |

Thanks Mike. Unfortunately no, no CF card.
But I wonder if I can buy a CF card and put my maps there? Is it different electronics to read SD than CF, do you suppose? Can't really afford a new iPaq right now.
In 2 hours I have to be at a conference, but don't know how to get there. I guess I'll try out Mapquest in desperation. |

Well I think you've saved me Mike, by reminding me that there's a CF slot. I went and bought a CF card and installed TTN7 on it, and all seems well! All I have to do now is set it up to my bluetooth pod.
I guess the SD reading mechanism went out; maybe one of the serial lines went out.
Thank you sir. |

Glad to hear its working again - how do you find the TTN7 on the VGA display though - don't you find the POI icons too small? - Mike |

Haven't actually used it yet. I have yet to set up my BT pod. But the display is just fine, clear and crisp, and sized properly.
TTN7 comes in three flavors: QVGA-Blue, QVGA-Black, and VGA-Black. My 4705 is VGA (not quarterVGA), and this version fits just fine. |

When I tried to set up my BT pod, whenever I turned on bluetooth it would error saying that there's not enough driver memory for the BT driver.
After a morning of research I found that TT installs an old version of the BT stack. What fixed it is I renamed BtCoreIf.dll, BtSdkCE30.dll, ttn6bt2003.dll, then reset and deleted these files.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get the big TOMTOM on the Today menu again. |
