The single UK file has been left out of the latest release for the Garmin POI Loader (14 March 08), though there is one for all the other countries. Is this an error or am I missing something? |

Just use the "Other csv" selection for your download which does contain the database you want while this ommision is looked into - Mike |

it was removed temporarily as it causes issues of certain cameras not giving warnings.
personally i'd recommend the consolidated by type for garmin devices

I usually rename the file to end in "20" so that all locations without "@"+speed will bong at 20mph. This may be something that only works for i3.
There are plenty of addresses in the consolidated files that have no "@"+speed for the UK and Europe.
MaFt: can you confirm that the data in the Single file is the same as the Consolidated. If it's not, we all need to know which is the safest. |

Why would the database be any different?
The single file database works if you do the above or make the changes i explained in another thread. However it's not available for download. Personally i think the Consolidated is better on the i3.... |

I'm not trying to be difficult here: I'm just trying to gain some understanding of the issues from a position of limited knowledge.
I asked for confirmation that the data was the same simply because of the suggestion that the consolidated version is somehow better than the single. Apart from the obvious reasons of the different camera logos showing, I could not understand why one was better unless the data was somehow different. I hope that's not an unreasonable inference?
Some i3 models will only handle a limited number of files, with a max of 85, which is where the single file is really useful. For example, the latest Garmin POI update contains more than 85 files alone and something's gotta give!
The single file is used by many of us for this reason and I hope it continues to be offered as it is for Europe etc.
Meanwhile, I am happy to go with Mike's suggestion, for which much thanks |

To put your mind at ease i never thought you were.

That IS the only difference (apart from the number of files they are in) and for that reason it's considered better because you get a clearer logo on screen.
The single file database just shows a camera logo and displays the alert banner across the top ie. GATSO:12345@50. The Consolidated database shows a different logo for each camera type and the alert banner across the top ie. GATSO:12345@50. Really that's the only difference in using either. |

Sorted. Could you clarify why the Single file is less likely to give warnings than the Consolidated if the data they contain is the same? Or was that a one-off problem for this particular release?
Would be grateful.
Thanks |

It was a problem that was highlighted by a few users who found the Variable Cameras on the M25 and M42 were appearing but not alerting. A couple of others did raise the problem but i suspect that the Single File is not very popular, hence it took 3 weeks for anyone to notice it had gone....
See this thread for the main discussion.
The fix is known but it's now up to the Team to make the Single File Database downloadable again..... |
