Navman F20 Hidden menus

By Mlwood37 AKA (mayhem)

I dont know if this info has been posted before if so im sorry if not well here it all is -

Right not being a programmer but after sitting on the loo for a few minuets I started playing round with my Navman F20. Now I do love PCs and always know that Companies like to hide hidden menus. These are normally test menus. So this is what I have come across so far with the Navman F20.

To get to the test menus First

Hold down Menu + Power Buttons for 10 seconds

This will bring you to the -= Maintenance Menu =-

From here you can use the + & - Sound Keys to move up and down the menus and the “Menu Key” to go forward and the ^ key to go back.

Here is a list of menus

Maintenance Menu

- Self-Test Cycle
- GPS Menu
- Traffic Menu
- Display Firmware Information
- Utility Menu

Self-Test Cycle

This will run though a Self test of the Navman F20 testing the following items

- Keyboard Test (fuel, Parking, Menu, Page, Vol +, Vol -)
- Light of the LCD 10% through to 100%
- Battery Level , Touch Temperature
- GPS Test
- Audio Test 10% through to 100%
- External SDC Test , Internal Micro SDC Test
- Completed

GPS Menu

- GPS Menu
- Perform a GPS Cold Start
- Perform a GPS Factory Test
- Show GPS Receiver Firmware Version
- Update GPS Receiver Firmware
- GPS Interface Test
- GPS TTFF Tests

Traffic Menu

- Get Traffic Version
- Reset Traffic Module

Display Firmware Information

- (this is what info came up with)
- Bootloader 4.10.1013 built on Oct 20 2006 at 11:56:03
- Primary bootloader version 4.10.00002
- Unit ID - (not showing this on this forum)
- Hardware version num: 0x00000005
- Test flag: 1111111
- Micsd ID: (not showing this on this forum)
- EXMMC ID : (not showing this on this forum)

Utility Menu

- File System Menu
- LCD / Keyboard Menu
- Sound Menu
- Other Menu

File System Menu (sub menu)

- File System test menu
- File system Performance tests
- Write a test file on A (this is internal memory)
- Write a test file on B (this is a External SD card)
- B incremental chunksize Test (External SD card)
- Get R/W status of the card in slot 1 to fastest
- Perform check disk on drive B (if it exists)

LCD/Keyboard Menu (sub menu)

- Keyboard backlight intensity
- LCD backlight intensity
- Casio LCD contrast VCOMDC
- LCD Palette test screen (colour)
- LCD colour bar test screen (colour)
- Touch Screen calibration

Sounds Menu (sub menu)

- Play sign wave tones
- Play Pink Noise
- Play Mary had a little lamb

Other Menu (sub Menu)

- Change DBG Output type
- Touch Chip Temperature
- Battery charge Current
- Battery level measure

Now after all that –

Holding down the Power button & the menu button you get the

Navman F20 (32mb ram)
Primary Bootloader 4.10.0002
Built on Jul 20 2006 at 13:09:00
Insert a SD into slot

Basicly if you insert a blank SD and press Menu Button it tried to load a boot loader but fails.

(Presuming this is running some sort of Linux or windows based OS is this hack able hehehehe).

Hope this is of help to people as I now can see that first off if the screen doesn’t calibrate properly you can reset this self through the menus as well as change the brightness of the screens to save your self on power …. Prolonging the battery life

Now if im thinking on the correct lines does this mean that the F20 is linux based and if so then shouldent Navman have the Code up for free distrobuction to the masses as per the linux gui.....

Hi all

A word of warning when trying to boot an sd card from the hidden menu.

I had an old icn320 card lying about and curi9ousity got the better of me and let it boot, prompty stuffing up my f20 8(.
After a bit of head scracthing manage to get it back by coping the
bootldr.bin from the update patch onto the memory card and booting again. pphheeeewwww

Be careful in this menu, Navman dont promote this as you can kill the whole unit in these menu`s.
Olny really go in here to re-align the screen.

I have jumped in without thinking and played around with the menus on my ICN 330... the thing just sits there refusing to do anything unless I hold down the menu button when turning it on. I'm asked to insert an SD card and press okay. It starts by

loading the bootloader from the SD card....

SD Card initialised.....

Successfully loaded bootloader file....

Valid bootloader image.....

Erasing boot flash blocks....

Boot flash blocks erased successfully....

Programming boot flash....

Then it just goes off and the screen is blank. I am now at a loss? I have emailed Navman but after 2 days am still waiting and their site is not very helpful. Anyone got any ideas?

I have also seen this site but am not a programmer so I'm not confident to try anything in case I do more damage.

just a thought, but as the micro SD card (in the rear under the sticker) can be removed from the f20, and then put into a card reader on a PC, can this not be a route in to modify it etc
