|
|
Due to a complete muck up using the original HOME program in Sept. I've not bothered to use HOME again, until now.
The 20% discount price for the downloadable seamless map of Europe looks pretty good value, but how many POI's are allowed??
Presently I have the 'seperate country' Europe Maps from the last up-date on the 6 CD's. Now each country map is allowed its own ~40 user-generated POI's.
Does the new seamless Europe map get '40x the no. of countries' or just 40 for the whole 'Europe Map'??
If the latter, then I won't bother to get it, as I value the POI's far more than not having to 'switch maps'.
PS. Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I've been away since the beginning of Oct. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

The number of POI's you can load to the device will depend upon the software version your device is running, if version 5,x then you can have upto 39 Custom POI's If you are using version 6,x then the limit is 100 custom POI's.
What device and software version have you currently got? - Mike |

Hi Mike, it's still v5.2xx since the muck up with HOME.
So is that 100 POI's per 'Map', or per SD card.
If the former, then I'll have 100 POI's for each different 'Country Map'.
If the latter, then there's no point in putting all my Europe maps on one card!
Thanks. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

It is per map, you will need to upgrade to version 6 to make use of the 100 available though - Mike |

Thanks Mike.
So it looks as though for me, I'd be better off with the seperate 'Country Maps' giving 100 POI's for each country.
The 'Europe Map' may give seamless routing, but only 100 POI's for the whole of Europe, so it's less convenient for me. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

You will still need to upgrade your software to version 6 to be able to get 100 categories. The possible number is nothing to do with the map version number. |

I realise that andy, thanks.
My query was really to do with whether it was worth it, for me, to get the new discounted 'Europe Map', given the POI limit that exits on it.
Seeing as I shall visit at least 6 European countries, that's less than 100/6 POI's per country, which is way too low for me, and a lot of other Europe 'GOers' I would imagine.
I'll continue with my seperate 'Country Maps' each with 100POI's on the new v6.xxx firmware. Even 40POI/country on the old v5.xxx firmware is far better POI-wise, if more than two counties are visited.
Can't think that Tomtom have thought this out properly.
You get seamless mapping as you go from country to country (with the new Europe Map), but the more counties visted the fewer POI's/country you can have. Which seems to defeat some of the point of having a seamless Europe Map.
But maybe it's just me!! I'll continue to just 'switch maps' at a convenient place en route, happy in the knowledge that all my POI's are available.
Thanks all and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

Is that not the POI Category -- rather than the POI as individual items...
I have transfered all of my Poi's over from the UK Maps and France Maps and Benelux maps and they equate to a larger total than 100 Individual Poi's
Just counted and have 22 folders... on the Western Europe map... all have more than ~~10 items in (I haven't counted) but that must be well in excess of 200 individual poi's
The only problem I did have was the re-naming of some of the files --- ie Caravan sites which had the same name in the UK map and the France map -- simply changed it to Caravan UK and Caravan F not forgetting to change the picture thingy as well to have the same file name ... _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

You are talking about 100 POIs per country map, but do you tend to use the same POIs in all the countries? I know that I do
If you do you will have the same cover on the whole of Europe map as you would on individual SD cards and also have the fluency of crossing borders
Do I make sense or have I had a little too much Xmas "pop" _________________ Furry Fred

Certainly don't need 100/country, but I'd certainly want more than ~17/country. (6-7 countries visited on the Europe Map). There are ~8 speed indexed S-C POI's for a start.
On the GB map I currently have, I have got close to the 40. Doesn't appear to have slowed it down at all. _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

Actually, it's 24 speed camera POIs for the complete UK set.
If you were to repeat that lot for a few European Countries it would eat up your 100 very fast! (Possibly an extreme example as I don't think the European cameras are divided up into so many categories, but you see my point?) |

If you use the SCBD camera database for Europe, all the files can be downloaded as one set of files. You choose which countries you want to include in the set (Ctrl Click) and leave out the countries you don't need.
So I have two sets of cameras, the PGPSW ones for UK and the SCDB ones for the rest of Europe. So about 50 files in all. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

The 100 limit is the maximum number the GO will see on the card/hard disc. It does not matter whether they are enabled or not.
If you add a 101st category, you won't see it on the list on the GO screen so you can't enable or disable it (it will show when viewed on your PC via USB though) _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)
