I bought a new bluetooth TomTom GPS from eBay (from http://tinyurl.com/2ujnf). The unit does not come with a cradle or an in-car charger. It does come with an AC adaptor and another power connector terminating with a phone socket type connection.
Is it possible to buy a car adaptor on its own? I've tried Maplins and Halfords without any luck.

If you are referring to a 12v Cigarette Lighter power cable then yes, Handnav have them. Give them a call, explain that it is to power a TomTom BT GPS (they use the same power supply as an iPAQ 36/37xx) and they'll sort you out. _________________ Darren Griffin |

The TomTom BT unit only accepts 5v though. Do you think the charger is switchable? I'll call Handnav to try and find out. |

As do the iPAQ's! The cigarette lighter adapter contains a step-down converter to reduce the 12/24v to 5v _________________ Darren Griffin |

Beware, that eBay one may not be compatible. Unlike newer iPAQ's, the 36/37xx series had a two pole power jack socket on the bottom.
These models could be powered either via this socket (which is the same as many BT GPS unit's including the TomTom model) as well as via the sync port (using a different type of charger) like recent iPAQ models.
If teh charger being advertised in that eBay link has the sync port type connector then whilst it will charge an iPAQ 36/37xx happily it won't work on the TomTom BT GPS. _________________ Darren Griffin |
