TomTom Map update adds London Pedestrian Mapping

TomTom have today announced the latest map update which sees the debut of new pedestrian mapping for Berlin, London, New York, San Francisco and Toronto. These new maps add pedestrian specific routing and include other possible routes such as
via footpaths and other paths and ways not available to vehicular traffic.
In addition Albania and Senegal get turn-by-turn maps whilst Andorra, Denmark, Hong Kong, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Switzerland get Address Points enabling improved geocoding and better navigation.

South-east favoured again. Osmand+ maps have footpaths and cycling tracks country-wide.

Let us hope that these pedestrian routes will be monitored by average speed cameras, with warnings for those who rush or dawdle. Fines should be reserved for people who stop without warning and block the thoroughfare.

 And Pocket GPS add them to database! Mind you, 'average cameras' not ideal for those dashing and then abruptly stopping to answer mobile.

I was under the impression there was going to be a new review of the TOMTOM go series in last week newsletter I m waiting to bu a GO 5000 but awaiting the acceptance of3 party POIs which I understand to be very soon??
Also just received this
Further to the last newsletter
I sent you on 21st January, which
disclosed plans to put "stealth"
average speed cameras on
the M42 and M6 that will
have a zero tolerance to
speeding...
It seems the story is getting
worse.
It's now been reported that the
Highways Agency are also
planning to install the cameras
on six stretches of Smart
Motorway over the next two
years, including on the:
M1, M4, M5 and M23.
...as well as on the M42 and M6,
as I mentioned in the last
newsletter;
...and the M25, where they are
already in operation.
It seems that the "War on the
Motorist" is coming back in
full force...

All of us have strayed over the speed limit by a small margin, usually not intentional, many police forces have a margin policy let's be honest car speedos are not accurate. Speed cameras are there for safety reasons or so we were told, not to be a cash cow. Has anyone out there not gone over the limit at some time?

Car speedos over read by design by 5-10%. So you are actually going slower than your speedo indicates. You can't use that as a valid excuse for inadvertently straying over the limit. Surely if you do, that should be driving without due care and attention as well as speeding. So if caught inadvertently straying over the limit by a camera, you should be thankful that it will only attract a speeding fine.
The new ones and the old ones in the M'way gantries are there to enforce 'traffic management', not as a cash cow.

Maybe not even that. I was nabbed doing 34 in a village. Punishment: three-hour detention/ speed awareness course at a Hilton hotel !
Actually quite informative and has altered my driving behaviour. I am no longer interested in speed camera alerts - I'm a Pocket GPS member for its GPS news and other POIs.
