New UK speed camera scare story hoax is spreading
Article by: Darren Griffin Date: 7 Nov 2012
Pictures of a supposed new type of covert speed camera being tested in the UK is spreading through Facebook and email.
The picture of the 'camera' which is installed into the central barrier/armco is accompanied by a variety of information such as the claim that it is being trialled on the A52 in Nottingham and on the A1 in Lincolnshire.
The claims are entirely false. The images have been lifted from a Swiss Police PowerPoint presentation where this device is being trialled. The device is NOT a speed camera, it is a speed measurement instrument and it is deployed in conjunction with the standard speed camera on a pole.
It IS NOT a new form of covert speed camera and IT IS NOT being tested in the UK. Please spread the word to correct the misinformation being passed around.

I just don't get it why would you be so scared if this was a speed camera?? Unless you do speed? If so you deserve all that you get.

What it indicates is the widespread mistrust in the government's covert use of technology. Used to ensnare and generate income under the guise of some laudable impossible to detract aim, ie Save a Child's Life.
The government talks of Ereading car numberplates on access to all major roads to spread the tax burden more fairly to high users. We cynics see that as a ploy. The real aim is that we get to pay for a universal camera system that will then Average Speed check every single trip we maker and penalise for every transgression.
I share a suspicion and a mistrust of every camera like device I encounter.

If you really don't understand this, you should probably pick up a copy of George Orwell's 1984.

Although not quite so covert, the French have been using a Speed Camera which attaches to the Barrier for some time. It is much more visible than the Swiss one. I'll try to find a picture for you.
I saw an article about it in a French motoring magazine back in the summer.
