Over 6,000 speeding vehicles crossing the Orwell Bridge have been caught by speed cameras in just six months.
The bridge, on the A14 between Nacton and Wherstead in Suffolk, is a 60mph stretch that is monitored by average speed cameras.
The numbers caught have been reducing since installation in July 2016 - from 1,699 to 629 in December.
The highest speed during December was 111 miles an hour which prompted the Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner to comment: "That's an excessive speed under any circumstances, almost twice the speed limit. What's truly astonishing is that someone did that as an average speed over a space of about a mile."

The Orwell Bridge - couldn't be more aptly named though, could it?
Also I don't think I have as much faith in the accuracy and relevance of all speed limits as some seem to - there needs to be a review body and the option of setting different speed limits for different classes of vehicle - much like the current goods vehicle limits - with some being (dare I say it?) higher than the current maximum.

Presumably you think bikes should be allowed to go faster. Well, fair enough, it would probably reduce the numbers out there
The need for speed always amuses me - nowadays, it seems to be imperative to get there five minutes earlier. Or should that be imperative to set off five minutes later. So much speeding seems to be down to setting off late. Ah well, it takes all sorts.

6000/6 months
= 1000/month
= 33/day
=1+/hour
Im surprised it is not more. I think the message not to speed must be getting through.
